Thank You for an Amazing Three Years!

This picture was taken at 6pm on January 30, 2015. Fifteen hours earlier, at 3am, the CHHS Animal Rescue Team left for Tennessee to rescue 15 amazing survivors of a cruelty/hoarding case. And the way we felt when we returned home to CHHS, we could have gone another 15 hours if the animals needed us to. That’s what being a part of Team CHHS is all about. It’s not a job. It’s a passion, and it’s a calling. We couldn’t NOT do this.

When world-renowned dog trainer, best-selling author and star of Animal Planet’s “It’s Me or the Dog” Victoria Stilwell visited us last year, she said that after touring animal rescue facilities all across the globe, the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society was a “model shelter”. Team CHHS made that happen, too.

As a long-term member of the national Society of Animal Welfare Administrators, I work with my peers across the country on an ongoing basis to share best practices of shelter management. As the elected Chairman of the North Carolina Animal Federation, I humbly serve to represent the incredible public and private shelter professionals in our state to elevate standards, training opportunities, and increase legislative protection for animals and for the people who save and protect them.

And yet the greatest honor, and the highest responsibility I hold dear, is to serve at the helm of Team CHHS. Today marks the third anniversary of being your Executive Director of the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society. Nothing we have accomplished in the past three years – nothing – was done through the efforts of one single individual. Team CHHS is the most skilled and dedicated staff I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Team CHHS is the “Be PAWsitive” volunteers who donate their time and heart and give the unconditional love to our shelter pets. Team CHHS is our Adopting Angels who show us on a daily basis the difference between “home”… and a “forever home”. Team CHHS is our donors, sponsors and community partners, who through their kindness, compassion and generosity allow us to further our mission without any local government tax dollars or any national funding. Team CHHS is our unsung heroes – our Board of Directors – who tirelessly give their resources, time and stewardship to help ensure that your Humane Society will be here for generations to come.

I am honored, immensely grateful, and forever blessed to be able to say… “I am a member of Team CHHS.” Thank you for an amazing three years.

For the animals,

David Stroud, Executive Director
Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society
