Low Cost Spay/Neuter
Spay and neuter is the most proven and effective way to reduce unwanted pet overpopulation. “Fixed” pets are also more calm, less likely to run away, and will live a happier, healthier and longer life.
Low Cost Vaccination
Several times a year CHHS hosts a low-cost rabies vaccination clinic to help protect your pet and keep you in compliance with state laws regarding mandatory rabies shots and tags.
CHHS has been designated as an official Emergency Placement Partner by the Humane Society of the United States, and is available to assist in puppy mill raids and transport of animals in times of natural disaster.
When the community can’t come to the shelter, we bring the shelter to the community! More than 40 times a year we bring shelter pets to off-site events where you can meet your new best friend.
Humane. Emergency. Adopt. Rescue. Transport.
After a year of planning, fundraising and construction, the H.E.A.R.T. of North Carolina (Humane/Emergency/Adoption/Rescue/Transport) has arrived at the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society. Our new 27-animal capacity mobile medical/rescue vehicle allows us to provide low-cost spay/neuter surgeries and vaccination clinics, increase adoptions at off-site events, rescue animals from puppy mills and hoarding cases, and assist first responders with transport and safe refuge for animals in times of natural disasters. With the H.E.A.R.T. of North Carolina, CHHS has been designated as an official Emergency Placement Partner by the Humane Society of the United States.
It is so exciting to see the good work that the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society is doing for the animals and the community. This new vehicle is yet another step to responsible care for all the animals including spay/neuter, emergency services and community outreach.”
– Kim Alboum, North Carolina State Director
Humane Society of the United States
The H.E.A.R.T. of North Carolina is a forward-thinking initiative that will benefit the community, the organization and most of all animals in need. This mobile unit will give CHHS the flexibility to assist with adoptions, animal intake, emergencies of all types and will be a big help in bringing the humane equation of too many animals and not enough homes into balance. Spaying and neutering animals is the best solution to allow every animal in need to find a home.”
– Carl Leveridge, Former President
Atlanta Humane Society
The H.E.A.R.T. of North Carolina will be a great asset not only to Jackson County but the surrounding counties as well in the event of a manmade or natural disaster. Your rescue vehicle will only bolster the response that can be brought to bear in the event of such an emergency. I look forward to working with the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society in the future.”
